Over 90 years of success
History
The fascination and passion for spring manufacturing have been part of our company from the very first hour. Join us on a journey through our history.

1927
On 29 December 1927, 16 shareholders subscribed 70 shares and together founded Federnfabrik und Apparatebau AG in Kaltbrunn. In 1928 the Kaltbrunn spring technology pioneers began producing extension and compression springs with the equipment they had acquired shortly before in Ebnat-Kappel. The company's premises were the former operations building of the Ricken Tunnel contractor, which thus finally found a new use after the tunnel was completed in October 1910.

1936
In 1936 the spring factory already employed twelve people, and within a few years the workforce had grown to more than 30. Good employment and pleasing operating results prompted the Board of Directors to address a major building project from 1945 in order to continue to ensure sustainable growth at the Kaltbrunn site. After extensive investigations, the nearby Obermühle site in Kaltbrunn was chosen. This site was to remain the main production site of Federnfabrik und Apparatebau AG Kaltbrunn until after the turn of the millennium.

1947
In 1947, production began in the new operations building on Obermühlestrasse. Steady growth and lasting success made continuous modernisation and expansion of the machine park possible, as a result of which production capacities also grew steadily. Just 10 years after the opening of the new site (1957), Federnfabrik und Apparatebau AG in Kaltbrunn had more than 100 employees.

2004
In 2004, Federnfabrik und Apparatebau AG took over the company Straub Federtechnik in Wangs and has since produced under the name "Federtechnik Kaltbrunn + Wangs" at two Swiss sites with a total of 210 employees. Almost at the same time, Federnfabrik und Apparatebau AG obtained ISO-TS 16949 certification, thus opening the door to the important automotive market.

2007
In 2007, after more than 60 years of production on Obermühlestrasse, management decided to move all production to the newly acquired building at Benknerstrasse 54. Today, Federtechnik Kaltbrunn AG develops and produces with state-of-the-art machines on a total area of 17,000 square metres.

2008
In February 2008, the owner of the renowned Egli Federnfabrik AG in Dübendorf decided to sell the entire share capital to Federtechnik Kaltbrunn AG. With this merger, Federtechnik expands its know-how, above all in the field of laser technology. A team of 250 experienced and motivated specialists guarantees unlimited possibilities in spring technology!

2011
At the beginning of 2011, Federtechnik Kaltbrunn AG also acquired the majority of the shares of the well-known, internationally active Feinstanz AG Rapperswil-Jona, which has been manufacturing high-precision metal parts for over 50 years with around 70 employees. Feinstanz AG has comprehensive know-how in fine blanking and forming technology at the highest level. With its integration into Federtechnik AG, the group becomes even more of a full-service supplier in spring technology and formed bent parts.

2015
At the end of October 2015, the entire Wangs production site is transferred to the parent company in Kaltbrunn. By pooling know-how and using synergies, competitiveness on the international market is further secured.
