Insights into spring manufacturing

For the production of compression, extension or leg springs, wire-bent parts or assemblies with spring components, we use a variety of manufacturing techniques and processes. These are used depending on the part geometry, the requirements of the component and the choice of material.

Our experienced production staff have an extensive, state-of-the-art machine park at their disposal. Many years of know-how and technological development ensure the highest quality for our customers.

In coiling, the starting material, in the form of wire, is twisted into a raw spring body in a non-cutting cold-forming process. The material thickness as well as the pitch and radius of this winding set the tolerance range within which the product can be formed without losing its properties.

Coiling is often the first step in production, especially for compression and extension springs, and is therefore a decisive foundation for a high-quality end product.

Winding

Similar to coiling, winding a wire into a spring is also a cold-forming process. Here, however, the wire is wound around a mandrel to bring it into the desired shape. Winding is a manufacturing technique used mainly to produce compression, extension and torsion springs. Which process is used for production depends on the desired application scenario and the associated material requirements.

Wire bending

Bending makes it possible to produce wire-bent parts in almost every conceivable shape and geometry with repeatable results. The process enables precise, efficient and cost-effective manufacture of components in individual versions and with different materials.

To avoid tilting of the springs and to optimise their buckling properties, spring ends are ground. Depending on the material, geometry and batch size, we use the appropriate grinding processes, with through-feed or in-feed grinding.

In hot and cold setting, springs are individually prepared for their later use by deliberately being taken to and beyond their load limits during this process. This ensures during production that prolonged use will not later lead to a loss of length or force. Depending on the field of application and customer requirements, various work steps are carried out on different systems.
